Re: “Giving up is wayyy harder than trying”
I love this! I too have some “Dreamer” friends. I like to think I’m a “Doer” in addition to being a dreamer, but where do I begin? Where did you begin?
Dear Reader,
That is so AWESOME to hear! You must yell, “I am a Do-er!!” over and over each day. Remember, whatever you brain is consistently thinking about will manifest. The motivation WE ALL have must come from within, not external. (Or we will be like everyone else) But it is sooo easy to fall off track and get caught up in day-to-day activities and struggles that we forget the bigger picture. If you truly know you ARE a do-er, you CAN AND WILL write your own ticket! Come to think of it, “I suppose it is only once we look back to our past and the path we have taken that we can call ourselves a ‘doer’ or a ‘success’; whatever your definition of SUCCESS is?” No one in this world will push you like you need to push yourself!
I once read a book proclaiming to hold “Secret of Success”. I read the 200+ page book in one night (hard for me because I am a slow reader!) And you know what? The book was right! If you care to know you will have to read the book for yourself………………………… (Ok, ok I’ll tell you.
)
ACTION! Take action!! Much like the previous post, this is what separates us from the herd!
“Where do YOU begin?” I am going to assume that you are interested in the real estate field but if not these principle are easily transferable to other fields. There are so many ways and opportunities to create wealth… NOT working for someone else! (Land lording, short-sales, wholesaling, REO’s, note buyers, fast-turn, a combination of any, ect) Most all of them take hard work and persistence. You can drastically reduce your learning curve and confusion by attaching yourself to a mentor in your certain field. If real estate try finding a local REIA, real estate investors association club, with link below. If not real estate, try to Google local groups with experts in your field, or try meetup.com. DON’T DO IT ALONE! http://www.nationalreia.com http://www.meetup.com
Once you have found someone that you admire and is where you want to be; take them out to lunch! This is a great way to pick their brain and ask for any advice, personal stories, or a direction to be pointed in. If this is a person of character, they should be willing to help you without you having to buy their “limited course, seminar, or next weekend boot-camp!” You are looking for free information at this point. Become a sponge for knowledge to be absorbed. But take this info like a buffet, pick what you like and discard the rest!
If you already know what you want to do, specialize in, find a niche, or are currently doing “IT”, STAY FOCUSED! ALL your energy focused onto one point is much more effective than spreading yourself too thin on 3 different projects. Be a constant student. But do not be “seminar groupie”. I once ask a friend of mine, with the creator of Tampa Bay REIA, “How many of the 225 people in this organization (at the time) have actually done a deal and are currently doing deals each month?” His answer was perhaps 1 out of 100. You know these people!… they are the ones attending every seminar for months or years and “Have not yet found the right deal. But any day now they will.” DO NOT let these people rub off on you!
Take action: 1. Find a mentor. 2. Pick a specialty. 3. Do your learning; get all your paperwork, speeches, business cards, etc in order. “Give yourself 60- 90 days to do these first few things!” Then, Market for a deal, put the deal on contract, consult your mentor and make sure your exit strategy is solid and realistic. [Being extremely nervous and scared your first time is expected. I got sick on my way to my first sellers house! And guess what it was a very good deal. Over 30k! (As I look back over this file to try and find the check I got at closing, I see the early paperwork I used… it is so hilarious. I really had little idea what I was doing. However the sellers where in a rough spot, which is good motivation, and I came in ‘riding in on my white horse’ to save the day!] Do not worry about knowing it all, you never will! Not to mention I was 20 at the time, and looked 14. Lol) Cash your check… Repeat!
BEAWARE! You may find once you start your journey that this particular field is not right for you. DO NOT GIVE UP ON BEING AN ENTROPENURE. That is understandable and perfectly fine. Do more research and try again. Learn from your past mistakes AND successes!
Where did I begin? I started by picking up my roommates Ron Legrand Course (that he was throwing away)… I made the choice then that I could and WOULD do this! Once I made this conscious decision to succeed in Real estate, I had made the hardest decision. The rest was just follow through! There was never an issue of attending a seminar or going to the beach. Making X offers each day or watching a movie when my friends asked me out. Knocking on doors, driving for dollars, flyer, advertisement, reading, seminars… They were ALL the cost of doing business. (Some worked, Some didn’t.)
My journey lead me to join many clubs and REIAs in order to learn. Gather many friends, contacts, and mentors. I studied for 3 months. Then 1 month from my 21st birthday I bought my first deal. I repeated this process. Learned more and more creative deals and techniques as I went along… made many mistakes that cost me thousands (I can think of >$70k off-hand) … BUT THAT IS JUST IT; I was in the position to lose out on THOUSANDS and still make $$$. Real-estate is a very forgiving business. I eventually found my niche in buying and holding mobile homes and their notes.
2-5 years busting your butt FOR YOURSELF in exchange for the rest of your life, the lives of your family, RETIRING VERY VERY EARLY! (Or whatever is important to you) Be working when your competition is sleeping… this is how you will pass them!
“While 1 person hesitates because he/she feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior.” –Someone I forget, but this quote is glued to my bathroom mirror.
I hope this helps… I have an tendency to get off topic so let me know if that helped! I would be happy to be more specific (where/how to start) if I new what field or aspect of RE interested you?
I’m in your corner!
